Cabris, France

We have just spent a glorious 2 weeks in Cabris, South

of France but how was the gluten-free food?

I left England with some supplies; Gluten-free bread

(Genius triple-seeded sandwich loaf), some Nature's

Path Nice and Nobbly cereal bars and my new

favourite products Genius Pain au Chocolat (so the

whole family could enjoy french pastries) and Barkat

Ice cream Waffle Cones. This was enough basics to last the first week.

We went to the supermarkets for our main shop.  Firstly we visited the Intermarche at Peymeinade. I was pleased to find they had a fair sized free-from (sans gluten) section stocking bread, pasta, biscuits and cake bars.  The bread is not as good as home, much smaller loaves that are not as soft. I would say similiar to those only on offer here a few years ago.  If you have a particular bread you like I would take it with you.  We did have some nice rolls called Schar Rustica Ciabatta these are the same as the DS ciabatta rolls found in supermarkets here.

My son enjoyed some great cake bars by Gerble his favourite were Petit cake au cacao which were actually 4 quite large chocolate cake bars and very soft.  My favourites were the choco noisette, a lovely soft nutty cake bar again 4 in a pack but not as large as the cake au cacao.

In the intermarche we also found some gluten free Toulouse sausages perfect for the BBQ.

The second supermarket we visited was the Carrefour at Le Tignet. Here a similar choice was found with the same brands. We also bought some chorizo sausage that was gluten free.  Some products are marked gluten-free but generally we needed to check the ingredients.
