In February after returning home from a fantastic week skiing in Les deux Alpes and still full of energy. I decided I would start running. So off I went managing about 1.5km each time but slowly improving the length of actual running I was doing. This led to Saturday mornings enjoying the local 5km Parkrun the furthest I had ever previously ran.

Then came April, London Marathon month! Well I got carried away and entered the public ballot for the Virgin Money London Marathon and I am currently waiting to see if I get a congratulations or better luck next time magazine early October.

So in the mean time I have signed up to Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon and my brother has kindly agreed to run with me. So I have seriosly stepped up the miles. With 2 weeks to go I am running 15km a couple of times a week. Last year I couldn't have contemplated even the 5km but here I am and I'm determined to make it around the course. If you've ever thought about running the local friendly Parkruns are a great place to start and who knows you may soon be running a half marathon too.

I am running to raise money for the Evelina childrens hospital in London who cared for our son as a newborn 9 years ago. Please if you can visit my fundraising page: uk.virginmoneygiving.com/RachaelWest23
